Thoughts on Action Research Topics

After reading Dana's Text, I have a new understanding on how important action research is.  There are many issues that present themselves in the school building every day.  Staff development is an essential part of our schools. Leaders are gaining a better understanding that the staff is different at every schools. Through action research an effective leader knows what his/her staff needs and brings it to them. Once a leader has developed an effective staff, then other things will begin to fall in place. As a new leader, I will concentrate on making staff meetings productive and worthwhile to my staff members to allow them to become better leaders in their classrooms.

  1. I think this is very important as a leader. I am sure we have all been to meetings that we have no idea at the end of it what we were supposed to get out of it. I do not believe we should just have meetings for meetings sake. As a leader I will try to accomplish this by having clear agendas ahead of time.

  2. I agree with you Garrett, staff development is an important part of a leaders assignment. Our principal this year is new and she has really been an asset to our building. She seems to have been standing back and taking in the culture and climate of our campus and has brought good ideas to our staff meetings. We share more with each other than ever before, which helps us to know each other better. In getting to know us, I think she will be able to decide what kinds of professional development will be good for us. We know that the district has some professional development that they want us to do, but she will also be able to suggest some for us to do.
